Elephants are always associated with the circus. But in May 2016, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus retired all of their elephants. The original date was 2018, but animal rights activists groups would not let up. Because of the backlash, the circus moved up the retirement date.
The company claims that they’ve been good to the animals, but that they deserve to be free. Eleven elephants will be moved to a 200-acre sanctuary built by the company, to be taken care of.
