Cockatiel Makes Remarkable Recovery After Being Found In Trash In A Food Carryout Container

When a good samaritan looked into a garbage bin on a street corner in Toronto,Canada, he made a shocking discovery. Inside a plastic take-out container, he found a starving cockatiel, near death and bleeding.

Hiss rescuer brought him to a local pet shop, Earth Echoes Reptile Centre. The poor little bird was in terrible shape, he had a broken wing, bloody patches, missing feathers and was covered in dirt.  In addition to that, he was starving and dehydrated.

Paul Collier, the pet store owner, rushed the little guy directly to the vet. They soon discovered that the little bird was blind and his injuries had been intentional.

“The fact that he’s still alive is a miracle,” Bev Penny said. Penny and fellow co-worker Catherine Becket were two of the Earth Echoes staffers who cared for the little bird.

They’ve named the little survivor Brock. A Facebook page has been created to raise funds.  Donations have been pouring in for the trusting bird.

“He’s just the sweetest little bird,” said Becket. “After all that was done to him … he sat on my hand and was chirping and singing at me a little bit. Not very loud because he’s not in good shape, but he was still trying. We’re all crying about him, because he hasn’t lost his faith in people.”

Despite the horrors that Brock has faced, he is well on the road to recovery . Thank goodness for people like his anonymous rescuer, his vet and the good folks at Earth Echoes!
