Everyone Thinks She’s Doing This To Mourn Her Owner. But The Truth Left Them In Complete Shock…

We all know that dogs are fiercely loyal creatures. Like humans, they need time to process loss, heartbreak, and depression. The closer we grow to our dogs over time, the harder it is to say goodbye when they pass away, and vice versa. When a photo surfaced online last year of what appeared to be a German Shepherd curled up next to the grave of her late owner, the Internet assumed she was simply mourning her owner’s death. However, it was soon revealed that the image was anything but sad. Instead of sitting near the grave to mourn her owner, this dog was actually protecting her puppies!

Thanks to Serbian animal rescuer Vensa Mihajloski, this momma dog and her four beautiful puppies were saved from their desperate condition. We already knew animal mothers were great, but digging a hole underneath a gravestone to shelter your children is some next-level love. The entire rescue process was documented by Mihajloski on her Facebook page, so you can witness the joy these dogs felt when they realized things were about to get a whole lot better.

This dog went through a lot to protect her babies, but from now on they will receive the care, love, and attention they deserve. It’s a good thing she was able to protect those pups, because they grew up to be some seriously good dogs. Check out the photos below to see the entire rescue process, from the viral image that started it all to the little puppies all grown up. A mother’s love is a special thing, and it’s stories like these that remind us how far a parent is willing to go to protect their children.

This is the first image the Internet saw of this brave dog.

What began as a sad image, quickly became an uplifting story of rescue and recovery when the camera took a closer look and revealed a few more furry faces.

This German Shepherd had dug a hole to shelter her four puppies from the elements. Serbia can get pretty cold, and as you can see there’s even some snow on the ground around them.

A local rescuer named Vensa Mihajloski came to their aid with a team of others who had been trained to handle situations like this. They offered the dogs food and brought them back home where they could give them proper care.

The tired momma and her four little pups were supplied with fresh water, food, shelter, and medical attention.

The puppies were so small and couldn’t have been more than a few weeks old.

With the help of Vensa and her team, this dog was able to properly care for her offspring.
