Thursday afternoon a fire broke out at Manchester Dogs’ Home in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Firefighters fought the blaze as members of the local community reportedly tried to save the dogs inside.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester police said that the fire claimed the lives of 60 dogs who were unable to escape. It is unclear how many more are injured.
A young man in the area whose name has not been released is currently in police custody and being questioned on suspicion of arson.
Support for the shelter came in real life in the form of food and blankets.

People learning about the tragedy began offering to help in any way they could, with many pledging to adopt dogs that survived the blaze.
