You might not have known this, but homeless animals outnumber homeless people 5 to 1. Though this statistic is incredibly sad, it’s not at all uncommon to see stray animals roaming the streets, in even the smallest of cities. It is a harsh reality we live with, but fortunately there are tons of people working hard and advocating for homeless animals every day, helping those drastically in need.
An organization in Canada, the Quebec Society for the Protection of Animals, found the dog you see below living on the street. He was so filthy and his fur was so incredibly matted, he almost could not even be recognized as an animal (let alone a dog). Below is the incredible journey he took from the moment they found him to where he is today. You won’t believe your eyes.
He had so much matted, dirty fur that he appeared much larger than he actually was.
More than 50% of his size here was due to the fur.
So, his rescuers rushed to shave off the nasty hair.
And they revealed a loving, wonderful boy underneath.
He was a little frightened by the buzzer…
And all of the primping might have been new for him…
But the process was worth it.
Afterwards, he was a completely different animal.
Thankful to be indoors, clean and loved.
It may be impossible to help every stray that you see, but every effort we make to help homeless animals counts. Contact the ASPCA or Humane Society if you’re interested in volunteering, donating or adopting. Our animal friends can’t help themselves, so we need to step in.
