The Mexican state of Oaxaca was hit with the strongest earthquake in over a century on September 8, 2017.
The quake registered an 8.1 on the Richter scale and has so far claimed over 200 lives countrywide. The exact number is hard to determine since the rescue efforts are still underway.
Thousands more have lost their homes, with structures crumbling to piles of rubble. It is a huge tragedy that will take years to restore and recover from. Volunteers, military, and rescue groups are all working hard to find those missing and to distribute necessities like clothing and water.
However, there is one member of the Mexican Navy that is getting a lot of praise for her work in the aftermath of the disaster. Her name is Frida, and she is a Labrador retriever on a mission.
Frida has saved 52 people so far and is still searching!
Frida wears protective goggles to help keep her eyes safe from dust and debris as she searches for survivors.
Frida wears protective boots t help her navigate the rubble.
