182-year-old Jonathan the giant tortoise is not as fast as he used to be, but he is still thriving! He is likely the oldest living tortoise, or even terrestrial animal, in the world. Experts presume Jonathan was brought to the island of St. Helena in 1882. A photo from 1902 shows him already at his full adult size and we know it takes 50 years for a giant tortoise to reach that size. We can safely estimate he was born in or around 1832.
