What happens when you suffer an injury that takes away your ability to smile? Well that’s exactly what happened to Duchess, a stray cat who was brought to an animal hospital in Texas after getting hit by a car, leaving her jaw broken and left her face crooked. For a stray like Duchess, the chances of survival didn’t seem good.
Thanks to the kind souls at Adobe Animal Hospital and Clinic, they treated Dutchess and gave it their all. Check out the images below to see what Duchess looks like today!
This is Duchess.
Her jaw was badly injured when she got hit by a car last October.
Thankfully, someone found her and decided to take her into Adobe Animal Hospital and Clinic.
“Most places would’ve just euthanized her, but, by some miracle, Duchess got lucky,” said veterinarian Crystal Tate.
The vets at Adobe Animal Hospital did everything they could to help heal her jaw.
While the surgery was successful, the future was uncertain. Duchess would have to stay in the hospital for about a month afterward in order to properly recover. A variety of medications and feeding tubes would make this a tough month for Duchess, but she was determined to survive.
“I met her the day I arrived at the clinic for my first day,” Tate went on to say. “Her mouth was just beginning to heal, the feeding tube had just been removed and she was very thin. The lowest meow caught my attention – her eyes showed so much sadness, but her purrs showed so much love and hope.”
It wasn’t long before Tate and Duchess formed a special connection.
“I had never cared for a special needs kitty and she had never experienced life as a special needs kitty, but we’ve learned [together].”
“She has been a part of our family since November and she walks around like she owns the house. We are still learning her quirks and helping her live her new life, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Now, Duchess is getting to live with her new brothers and sisters. There’s Joshua (a Siberian husky), Peaches (a bichon), and her fellow feline Oliver.
As you can see, they all get along great.
“She has had a few more procedures since coming home with me, but she is getting stronger every day and we couldn’t be more proud.”
