Hartford police announced charges against 50-year-old Michelle Bennett, a Connecticut woman, when her dog was found frozen to death outside on New Year’s Day. She was charged with animal cruelty.
When police arrived, they found the 3-year-old male pit bull chained inside a dog house in the backyard of her home.
A veterinarian who examined the dog said it was not only malnourished, it was “frozen solid.” The poor animal was also underweight for its size and found lying in its own feces.
Police say the owner was in jail on unrelated charges and said she had made arrangements for the dog’s care.
Bennett was being held on bail and could not be reached.
