Sophie the piglet was born the runt of her litter and was struggling to survive at Wild Moon Organics farm when suddenly an unlikely surrogate began looking after her.
Richard Quiring wrote on the farm’s Facebook page that Sophie was just 1 week old and was not making it. His son decided he was going to try and help Sophie survive and began nursing her back to health with a milk replacement. It was then that she met Duke the German Shepherd and the two developed a special bond.
Before long, the pair were eating out of the same food bowl and sharing a kennel at bedtime.
Duke and Sophie have a father-daughter like connection, Richard told Castanet.
Sophie follows him everywhere.
And Duke lets the piglet crawl all over him.
Richard said that Duke may regret that in the future when the piglet grows bigger. Sophie could grow up to 400 pounds!
The family intends to keep Sophie as part of the family and will take care of her own piglets in the future!
