Adopting is the best way to bring a new animal family member into the household. That being said, there are still so many animals out there that are deemed ‘unadoptable,’ and have a hard time finding a permanent home.
After Steve Greig’s dog passed away, he felt a hole in his heart and wanted to bring a new furry friend into his life. He decided that this time, though, he was going to adopt the dogs that were being overlooked by the rest of the community instead of aiming for a puppy.
He decided to adopt a “12-year-old Chihuahua with a heart murmur and four bad knees,” and when he saw the level of happiness that the new family member brought into his life, he quickly spiraled into adopting 10 new elderly dogs into his home. He also has a pig named Bikini, two ducks, pigeons, cats and a few chickens.
Because of his massive family and their needs, he wakes up every morning at 5AM to make breakfast. Due to their different diets, he often has to cook various meals to make sure every animal gets the food that works for their body. Along with that, his schedule is filled with walks in the park and appointments with the veterinarian.
“They’re just wiser animals,” Greig notes. “You kind of know what you want out of life once you become a certain age. These dogs know who they are and it’s easy to develop a relationship with a person or pet who knows who they are. It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.”
His Instagram has quickly racked up 591k followers and counting, and the internet is falling head over heels with the crew! With all of the love circling around, Greig and his furry family are living a blessed life together as one.
