When Ken Wyrsch worked at an army base in Iraq, he met Ollie, a little puppy, for the first time. Ollie won all the soldiers’ hearts. They began taking care of the street dog and gave him food.
Ken and Ollie became best friends. While Ollie became an important part of others in the army base. He was a morale booster.
As time went by and the puppy grew up, Ken spent as much time as he could with his best friend. “He was there when we left our missions, he was there when we got back,” Ken said.
When it was time for Ken to leave Iraq and return home to California, Ollie would end up back on the street alone again. The entire army base was being shut down, and Ken was heartbroken. He was not about to let that happen.
He was sure that Ollie would not survive the harsh life street dog life, especially in a country where attitudes towards street animals were not favorable. Ollie was such a gentle and loving dog.
Ken contacted SPCA International and asked if they could help him bring Ollie to California. After collecting generous donations, one month later Ollie was in the USA.
